    ABOUT

Radish 'Venom' is the microgreen that announces itself the moment you bite in — a clean, assertive radish heat that builds on the tongue, carried by stems that flash a deep, vivid pink against bright green cotyledon leaves. The texture is genuinely crisp and juicy, not limp or floppy, making it one of the few microgreens that holds its own as a standalone ingredient rather than just a garnish. Scatter a generous handful over a bowl of miso soup, pile it onto smoked salmon on rye, or let it cut through the richness of a creamy dip — it earns its place every time. Venom germinates explosively and grows with almost reckless confidence, making it the ideal starting point if you're new to microgreens and want results you can actually see — and taste — within a week and a half.

    GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
1 Fill your tray with a good-quality potting soil or coco coir to about 2–3 cm depth, level it off gently with your hand, and give it a thorough bottom-water or gentle misting until evenly moist but not waterlogged. You'll notice the medium darkens to a deep, rich colour — that's your cue it's ready.
2 No soaking needed! Scatter your seeds dry and evenly across the surface — aim for a single, mostly non-overlapping layer. A shaker bottle or salt shaker works brilliantly for even distribution. Press the seeds lightly into the soil with a flat card or spare tray so every seed makes good contact with the medium.
3 Mist the seeds lightly with water, then place an empty tray on top and weigh it down with something heavy (a filled water bottle, a couple of books, or a dedicated germination weight). This gentle pressure encourages the radicles to dig into the soil and produces wonderfully straight, uniform stems. Keep them in a warm spot (18–22 °C) — within 24–48 hours you'll hear a faint rustle if you lift the cover: the seeds are cracking open.
4 After 2–3 days in the blackout, the sprouts will be stretching urgently towards where they think the light is — pale yellow, reaching, full of potential. Flip the cover upside down to create a blackout dome for one more day if you want extra stem length, or move straight to light. Either way, water generously from the bottom on the day you uncover them.
5 Place the tray under a grow light or in a bright spot (a south-facing windowsill works fine — just rotate the tray daily so stems grow upright). Within hours you'll watch the yellow shoots transform: green chlorophyll floods in and those signature pink stems deepen in colour. It's one of the most satisfying sights in home growing.
6 Water from the bottom once daily, keeping the medium evenly moist but never soggy. Good airflow is your best friend here — a small fan on low nearby, or simply an open window, dramatically reduces any risk of damping-off. Avoid splashing water on the leaves to keep them clean and shelf-stable.
7 Harvest at 8–12 days when the cotyledons are fully open and the colour is vibrant — use clean scissors or a sharp knife and cut just above the soil line. Stop watering 12 hours before harvest so the foliage is dry, then store in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 7–9 days. Rinse just before serving for maximum crunch.
